National Mineral Reservation Program (NMRP) Capacity Building: Training-workshop on Advanced Resource Estimation Techniques

In line with the National Mineral Reservation Program (NMRP) of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), training activities were slated last year to enhance the capabilities of technical representatives from MGB-Central Office and Regional Offices working under this program. In this respect, the Economic Geology Section (EGS) of the Lands Geological Survey Division (LGSD) organized a five-day training program on “Advanced Resource Estimation Techniques” which was held at the Hive Hotel and Convention Place, Quezon City from November 25 to 29, 2019. The SURPAC software package was used as the platform for geostatistical estimation in the training module.

MGB Holds 21st Annual Technical Forum in Baguio City

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) held its 2019 Annual Technical Forum (ATF) at Holiday Inn Hotel, Baguio City on November 18-19, 2019, hosted by MGB-Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) with the assistance of the Mining Technology Division, MGB-Central Office (CO).

Comrels and Stakeholders Convene for Social Development Speaks Forum

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) and the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association jointly led the Social Development Speaks Forum held on November 20, 2019 at the CAP John Hay Trade and Cultural Center, Baguio City.

As one of the highlights of the celebration of the 66th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference, the event was attended by the Community Relations and Development Practitioners; Information and Communications Officers; other representatives of mining companies all over the country; and representatives from MGB Central and Regional Offices. Metallic mineral production value sustains growth in Q1-Q3 2019

Metallic production value managed to pull a 6.5%, or PhP6.09 billion, growth from PhP93.48 billion during the first three quarters in 2018 to PhP99.58 billion during the same period this year.

Despite the 1.24% slip in the average nickel price, nickel direct shipping ore with the aid of  its other products (mixed nickel-cobalt sulfide and scandium oxalate) again took the spotlight accounting for 48% or  PhP47.36 billion of the total value during the period.  Gold retained the second spot with 37% or PhP36.90 billion, while copper took the third position with 14% or PhP14.40 billion.  The remaining 1% was accounted for by silver and chromite with PhP0.9...
